Workers

These 3 workers balance on ladders, improvising their way through a job that looks impromptu, risky, and mostly unseen. I painted them quickly, wet into wet, with flat blocks of color and rough blending. The black outlines hold the figures together in a loose cloisonnist structure, with bent verticals and long, awkward lines. I wanted the painting to stay close to labor itself.
